Rebirth of Zhang Kang and his Grandson, Weng'er, of the Later Jin Dynasty

Zhang Kang, his background is unknown. During the Later Jin Dynasty (936–946 CE), he served as a “Hanlin academician.” He once recited the Great Compassion Mantra one hundred thousand times, aspiring to be reborn in the Western Pure Land. One day, while bedridden, he devoted himself to wholeheartedly reciting Amitabha Buddha's name. Not long after, he told his family, "The Pure Land is right here in the western part of the main hall. Amitabha Buddha is sitting on a lotus, and Weng'er is on the golden sands of the lotus pool, bowing and playing." After some time, his recitation ceased, and he attained rebirth. The so-called Weng'er was Zhang Kang's grandson, who had already attained rebirth. (The Buddha’s Chronicle)
