Rebirth of Qing Chaoyin

Chaoyin. Her surname was Jin. She was from Changshu, Suzhou (Jiangsu). She married a man named Gong. Later, she became a widow and lived alone, strictly observing the chastity of a wife. She and her son Duanwu decided to take the monastic life together. After Duanwu became a monk, Chaoyin also went to Suzhou to pay homage to the nun Zhenru as her teacher. Later, she returned to her hometown, rented a house and practiced in it. The sound of chanting Amitabha Buddha continued all day and night. One day, she showed signs of a slight illness. After bathing, she put on her clothes and sat upright in the middle hall. At sunset, she calculated that she would attain rebirth at the time of Hai (nine to eleven o'clock in the evening)! Later, she put her hands into her sleeves, sat upright and attained rebirth at the age of seventy-three. This happened during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1661). (Brief account of Chaoyin)
