Rebirth of Bhikkhuni Zhu Jin (Ming Dynasty)
Zhu Jin. The courtesy name was Taisu, the surname was Tang, and she was from Hangzhou. Before becoming a nun, she married a Confucian scholar named Shen from the same county, who later became Master Lianchi (i.e. the eighth patriarch of Chinese Pure Land Buddhism). When Master Lianchi became a monk, Zhu Jin was only nineteen years old. Someone advised Zhu Jin to prevent Master Lianchi from becoming a monk. Zhuan Jin said: "I often hear him say that life and death are important matters. To prevent him from becoming a monk is to obstruct him and is not allowed!" Zhu Jin also became a nun at the age of forty-seven and received full ordination. She was extremely strict in upholding the precepts, and practiced the Dharma of reciting Amitabha Buddha's name devoutly. In the 42nd year of Wanli reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Ming Dynasty (1614 AD), she fell ill. When she was seriously ill and dying, she suddenly told her attendant: "The scriptures say that you can attain rebirth even with ten recitations. Help me get up quickly!" After getting up, she sat upright and chanted Amitabha Buddha's name and attained rebirth. She was sixty-seven years old. (Records of Xiaoyi Nunnery)
