FAQ: Is Amituofo from another universe or our own universe, cause I remember hearing each universe has its own Buddha from somewhere.

Hello, Amitabha Buddha has three bodies (in fact, all Buddhas have three bodies). The Dharmakaya (Dharma body/Buddha nature) is everywhere. It's formless but can give rise to all forms (it's also the True Nature of our Heart/Mind) - this cannot be simply grasped or understood by our conditioned mind,  as it's the unconditioned (also don't be attached to any words I use. One has to let go of all attachment to know and experience as the Ultimate Truth is unfathomable - which you will know when you go to the Pure Land after this life ).

The Reward Body of Amitabha Buddha resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss to teach sentient beings. Amitabha Buddha also manifests countless Transformation Bodies in different worlds/universes to help countless sentient beings and receive them to the Pure Land.

So a Buddha (a completely enlightened being) ultimately transcends time and space.

However, different Buddhas do teach in different Pure Lands/Buddha Lands primarily, although at the same time they also have countless bodies in other worlds to help save sentient beings.

For instance, Amitabha Buddha (His Rewards body) teaches in His Western Pure Land (and also manifests in countless transformational bodies to teach in other worlds). Shakyamuni Buddha is the current Buddha in our world to teach (although his manifestation body in India 2600 years ago entered into Pariniravana - disappear temporarily for people with lesser good roots, we are still under the teaching period of Shakyamuni Buddha). Shakyamuni Buddha in fact is still teaching in our world in different transformational bodies and different identities), so are other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. And Shakyamuni Buddha told us about Amitabha Buddha from the Western Pure Land.

The Western Pure Land is also everywhere as it is the Dharma Realm (all existence/all worlds) as it's manifested by Amitabha Buddha's perfect enlightened mind (which is everywhere) and His great vows. But it is in a different dimension so that is why we can't see with our bare eyes.

In the Amitabha Sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha told us the Land of Ultimate Bliss is thousands of millions of Buddha Lands away from us to the West. This is because our ignorant unenlightened mind is thousands of millions of Buddha Lands away from the Pure Land.

In the Visualization Sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha said the Western Pure Land is actually not far away, then he teaches Queen Vaidehi how to visualize the Pure Land.

The Pure Land is not far if our mind is close to the perfect enlightened mind of the Buddha, for instance, if one attains Nianfo Samadhi, one can see the Pure Land in the here now. If one is unenlightened, then the Pure Land is very far away.

You can think of the Pure Land as different dimensions/universe existing parallelly to our world. But unlike our limited and illusional world (created also by our illusional mind), the Pure Land is boundless and limitless (as the Dharma realm has no bound). When one can realise Buddhahood and break all the dimensions one can see the Pure Land in the here now. However, this is extremely difficult for us ordinary beings, we must rely on the vows of Amitabha Buddha to attain rebirth in the Pure Land in this lifetime to realise Buddhahood.

Namo Amitabha Buddha
