Rebirth of Zhang Ye of the Jin Dynasty

Zhang Ye, courtesy name Laimin, was a native of Xunyang (modern-day Jiujiang, Jiangxi). He was filial towards his parents, and he was a loving brother, to the extent that he was willing to give all of his farmland and property to his younger brother. He and his family lived in harmony, sharing joys and hardships.

The local government repeatedly summoned Zhang Ye to take up official positions, but he declined each time. The imperial court appointed him as a "Gentleman Cavalier Attendant" (an official title: free to enter and exit the imperial palace, often serving by the emperor's side), but he also refused the position. Instead, he joined the White Lotus Society on Mount Lu and became a disciple of Master Huiyuan.

In the 14th year of the Yixi era of Emperor An of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (418 CE), Zhang Ye said his goodbyes to his family, entered his room, sat upright, and attained rebirth. He was 69 years old at the time. (Donglin Chronicles)
