FAQ: Can Pure Land Buddhism save me in my last years?
Hello, Jiawen, I have been a seeker for many years (many paths/ways) without as much as a glimpse. I am 67 years old and soon I will close my eyes for the last time. Is there a possibility that Pure Land Buddhism could help me find peace in my last years? Although I’m avid reader I no longer wish to immerse myself in exhausting sutras, scriptures, texts and rituals. I just wish to go home. Kind regards Alan.
Dear Alan, Amituofo, and yes you are in safe hands. Pure Land Buddhism is probably the only path that can help you and most people in the Dharma-ending age to exit the cycle of Samsara (reincarnation) and realise Buddhahood, as most people cannot obtain enlightenment through their self-effort, who, like you, have tried for many years.
As long as you have deep faith in Amitabha Buddha and sincerely vow to attain rebirth in His Pure Land, and practice Nianfo from now on, you will not be disappointed and will definitely see Amitabha Buddha at the time of your exit (maybe even earlier if your faith is deep and your practice is diligent). You don’t need to immerse yourself in sutras etc. All you need to do is to make sure your faith in Amitabha Buddha is deep and sincere, i.e. without doubt, and you also need to sincerely vow to seek rebirth in His Pure Land. Deep faith and sincere vow can guarantee you rebirth in His Pure Land. Your level of practice will determine your grade of rebirth, but don’t worry too much about that; just Nianfo in your daily life with your sincere heart like you are calling your compassionate father to take you home! You can also check out some of the rebirth cases we shared earlier to help you strengthen your faith. Also, join our online Nianfo Zoom sessions when you can, to remind you of Amitabha Buddha in your everyday life.
I hope to see you in the Pure Land after this life! :)
